First-time Schengen visa applicant: PH to Spain Hi…

First-time Schengen visa applicant: PH to Spain

Hi everyone! I’m planning to visit **Madrid, Spain this October for about a week** to visit a friend who lives there. He’ll be hosting me at his place and is willing to provide the necessary accommodation/invitation documents.

This will also be my **first international trip from the Philippines**, so I’m trying to make sure I have everything covered and don’t accidentally mess up my application. 😅

I have a few questions and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through the process:

**1.** I’m looking at flights and it’s significantly cheaper for me to fly **PH to Rome to Madrid**, rather than directly to Madrid. If my Spanish Schengen visa is approved, would I be okay entering Schengen through Rome and then taking a connecting flight to Madrid?

’d love to hear from anyone who has actually done this, especially if there’s anything extra I should prepare for at immigration/boarding.

**2.** Since this is my **first time traveling internationally**, what documents or things would you recommend to make my application as strong as possible?

I have sufficient funds in my bank account and strong ties to the Philippines, but I’d love to know what first-time applicants usually overlook or what helped make their application convincing.

**3.** For those who applied through Spain, how did you handle the **flight reservation/booking requirement**? Did you use a refundable ticket, a temporary flight reservation, or an agency that provides a reservation specifically for visa applications?

I’ve seen people mention “dummy flights,” but I’d rather do this properly and legitimately than submit something questionable.

Any advice, tips, experiences, or things you wish you knew before applying would be **VERY appreciated**! 🙏

Thank you in advance! ❤️
