☀️ #summersolstice

Today I participated in the Summer Solstice Awareness Activity.

Q1- If the Summer Solstice gives us the longest day of the year, why isn't it usually the hottest day of the year?
Although the Summer Solstice brings the longest period of daylight, it is usually not the hottest day of the year because the Earth and oceans continue absorbing and storing heat after the solstice. This phenomenon is known as seasonal lag. As a result, temperatures often keep rising for several weeks, making the hottest days occur later in the summer.

Q2- On the Summer Solstice, does the Sun rise earliest, set latest, or both? Explain your answer.
The Summer Solstice is generally associated with the latest sunset of the year. However, the earliest sunrise often occurs a few days before the solstice rather than on the same day. This happens because of the Earth's tilt, orbital motion, and the difference between solar time and clock time. Therefore, the solstice does not necessarily bring both the earliest sunrise and latest sunset on the exact same date.

Q3- If you stood exactly on the Tropic of Cancer during the Summer Solstice at noon, what unusual thing could happen to your shadow?
At solar noon on the Summer Solstice, the Sun can appear directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer. When this occurs, your shadow becomes extremely short and may nearly disappear beneath your feet, creating a rare and fascinating astronomical phenomenon.
The Summer Solstice is a remarkable reminder of Earth's tilt, orbit, and the dynamic relationship between our planet and the Sun. It highlights how science can explain the natural patterns we experience every year.
