In Filipino culture, sweeping the floor at night is one of…

In Filipino culture, sweeping the floor at night is one of the most well-known "pamahiin" (superstitions). It is widely believed that doing so sweeps away good luck and prevents fortune from entering the home.
They believe is that by sweeping the dust out of the house at night, you are also sweeping out the family's wealth and blessings. It is seen as an act of "driving away" the luck that has gathered during the day.
Many elders warn that sweeping at night can lead to financial struggle or "kabahayan na walang swerte" (a household without luck). It is often said that the spirits of wealth are active at night, and your broom might accidentally shoo them away.

From my standpoint, leaving a mess on the floor overnight—especially food crumbs—is an open invitation for pests like ants, cockroaches, and rodents. In a modern household, the "bad luck" of a pest infestation is far more tangible and immediate than the "bad luck" of sweeping. Cleaning as soon as a mess occurs is simply better for the health of the family.

That's amazing because here in some parts of my province, old women still believe in and they didn't allow their daughters, girls to do sweeping at evening especially when sunsetting due to this superstition.
