🇹🇷 President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Egypt could join the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, the new defence arrangement signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on August 7.

The pact says an armed attack on one of its three signatories will be treated as an attack on all. Its members describe it as a defensive collective-deterrence arrangement that is open to further participants.

📰 Egypt has not announced that it is joining. Erdogan’s remarks signal possible expansion, while Pakistan has said prospective members would need to uphold the pact’s principles and pursue peaceful settlement of disputes. 🛡️

Egypt already has growing security contacts with the three states: Egyptian, Pakistani, Saudi and Turkish senior officials met in Islamabad in April, and Egypt and Türkiye signed a military-cooperation roadmap in June. No accession timetable or implementation details for Egyptian membership were announced.
