Russia and North Korea opened their first road bridge across their shared border on 7 September, adding a two-lane vehicle link over the Tumen River. 🚚
The crossing connects Khasan in Russia’s Primorsky Krai with Tumangang in North Korea. Russian officials said the new checkpoint can handle up to 300 vehicles a day.
The countries had previously been connected by a railway bridge and air services. They agreed to build the road bridge in 2024, and construction formally began in April 2025.
Russian officials said the bridge could support trade, tourism and other exchanges. It opens as Moscow and Pyongyang continue to deepen ties during Russia’s war in Ukraine. 🌉
🇺🇸 President Donald Trump has named Adam Telle acting secretary of the Army after Daniel Driscoll left the post. Telle had been serving as assistant secretary of the Army for civil works.
The secretary is the Army’s top civilian official. The office oversees operations, modernization and resources for the service, while remaining under civilian Defense Department leadership.
Telle was confirmed by the Senate in August 2025 after a career in congressional and White House legislative affairs, including as chief of staff to Senator Bill Hagerty. In his civil-works role, he supervised policy for the Army Corps of Engineers’ civilian infrastructure program. 🏗️
Driscoll’s departure came amid reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth; no public explanation was given for his decision to leave. The available reporting did not say whether Telle will be nominated to serve permanently. ⚖️
🇳🇴 Norway has seized the Russian expedition vessel Professor Molchanov in Barentsburg, Svalbard, after a Nord-Troms District Court order sought by Ukraine’s Naftogaz.
The Governor of Svalbard said the ship must remain in Barentsburg until the Governor or court decides otherwise. Authorities said they would arrange care for passengers and crew with Trust Arcticugol.
📰 The action is part of Naftogaz’s attempt to enforce a $4.22 billion arbitration award over energy assets Russia seized in Crimea after its 2014 annexation. ⚖️
A Hague-based tribunal issued the award in 2023. Because Russia has not paid, Naftogaz has sought domestic court orders in countries where Russian assets may be available for enforcement.
The seizure restrains the vessel’s departure; it does not by itself determine a final recovery or transfer of the ship. Russia condemned the action, while Naftogaz said it would continue pursuing assets internationally.
