Thermal found a weird spot before spring exterior work
Getting into spring and trying to decide what actually needs attention before starting exterior work.
One exterior wall looks normal from outside. No visible rot or staining. Inside, the wall around one window consistently feels cooler than the rest of the room.
Baseline checks:
* HVAC running normally, supply air \~58–60°F * Vent airflow checked with an anemometer, no obvious imbalance compared to other rooms * No noticeable draft by hand, incense smoke test showed minimal air movement * Indoor humidity \~40–45% measured with a cheap hygrometer (thermopro tp50) * No visible moisture, staining, or soft spots on drywall
Thermal check:
* Used a tc004 mini and found one localized area around the window showing a consistent temp difference of about 3–5°F compared to surrounding wall sections. Pattern is stable across multiple scans, mainly along one side of the window perimeter and a small adjacent wall section.
Trying to understand what this usually points to before opening anything up.Would you start with sealing / caulk / trim, or is this more typical of insulation gaps or something behind the wall?
At what point would you actually open it up vs monitor? #home
