The U.S. State Department has canceled or revoked more than 175,000 visas since Donald Trump returned to office, according to a department tally reported Tuesday. 🛂
The department said the actions targeted visa holders it believed had violated visa terms, committed crimes, defrauded U.S. citizens, abused the immigration system, posed public-safety risks or raised national-security concerns. The reported total was more than four times the roughly 40,000 visa revocations recorded in 2024 under the Biden administration.
A visa revocation cancels an entry document; it is not itself a deportation order. The State Department issues and may revoke visas, while Customs and Border Protection decides admission at the border and the Department of Homeland Security handles removal enforcement.
The department has not released a complete breakdown of the 175,000 cases, leaving the relative share attributed to serious crimes, immigration violations, security concerns or other grounds unknown. The reported campaign is part of continuous vetting of about 55 million people with valid U.S. visas. ⚖️
