Advice for a newcomber?

Hello, I have a lot of experience with hiking, but very little with backpacking. I’ve only done it once when I was a middle schooler and the weight of the pack was too much for me to physically bear so I had to quit early, lol. Now I’m an adult that loves the outdoors and traveling but I don’t know where to start.
Like I said I love hiking, but I’ve only done it within a short distance from my car. I live in the southeastern USA. I also do not come from a wealthy background and work minimum wage (adding this just because ik people whose parents pay for trips like these but i am not one of them so i am on a budget). I would love to travel anywhere in the world however. It’s just that I have no experience. Also for reference, I’m a single female in my early 20’s and without reliable travel-friends.
I have no particular preference on where to begin but the dream of my life is to travel to as many countries as possible. And maybe beginning with Ireland because I have ancestry there but that certainly isn’t a requirement.
What are the first things to know? Can you please direct me towards resources, ideal locations, and just provide general advice to start out with? I would really appreciate that. Please also feel free to give even the most basic advice you have. Anything is appreciated
