The "Wow! signal" was a powerful, narrowband radio signal detected on **August 15, 1977**, by Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope during a routine SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) survey. Upon receiving the signal, Ehman circled the alphanumeric code “6EQUJ5” and then wrote beside it, “Wow!” Simply because he was so astonished at what he was seeing.
