I am a bit of a noob when it comes to palm routing, so bear with me. . .
I have a Ryobi palm router that has worked well for some jobs but not others. For the most recent example of my problem, I was using it to make juice grooves in some maple.
On the fist, very shallow pass it was fine. Did a groove of a mil or two.
The second pass, which started at likely 4 mil, had the bit coming out of the router, and the bit oscillating a bit as it did. By the time I recognized that it was messing up, it was at least 6 mil deep.
I've had this issue before, and as a result I really work to tighten the collet down. Does not matter how tight I make it, it comes loose when I am trying to go deeper than a few mil.
Is this a general router thing, or do I need to go palm router shopping?
