Budget airlines are actually punishing backpackers now
just finished a 2 week loop starting in vancouver and ending up in banff. the hiking was incredible, weather held up nicely for most of it and I would 100% go back just for the mountain views alone. but honestly im still exhausted from the transit.
Swear to god airlines are just actively trying to ruin the start of every trip. they forced me to check my 40L pack at the gate and charged me almost as much as the actual flight ticket. Literally sat on the tarmac for two hours just stewing over it. by the time I finally dragged myself into samesun downtown to crash, I was completely drained and ready to sleep for a week
it just feels like the whole industry is getting so insanely greedy with backpackers lately. how are y'all dealing with this? seriously debating just wearing 4 layers of jackets on my next flight so I dont have to deal with gate agents staring down my bag. just so annoying tbh
