Expedia denied my price match because another site didn’t list a smoke detector

I booked a hotel through Expedia for $290 for 2 nights. The next day I noticed the price had dropped by $50 and also found the same room on Trip.com for $213, so I contacted Expedia to request a price match.

First they said the rooms were different because Expedia listed “Superior 2x Single Bed Room” while Trip.com said “Superior Twin Room.” I sent screenshots showing the Trip.com listing clearly says 2x single beds under bed details, and my Expedia confirmation email actually lists it as “Superior Twin Room” anyway.

Then the agent said the rooms must match exactly and asked me if they match exactly. I said I believe they do, but that it’s their job to verify.

Then they asked if the room details on Trip.com specifically listed a smoke detector and fire extinguisher. Expedia’s page listed those as room features, while Trip.com didn’t mention them. Because of that, and because Trip.com listed a child policy while Expedia didn’t specifically mention it, they said the rooms aren’t identical and rejected the price match.

So even though it’s the same hotel, same room name, same bed configuration, same photos, and the same room category on the hotel’s own website, they denied it because Trip.com didn’t explicitly list smoke detector and fire extinguisher.

Honestly it felt like they were just looking for any tiny difference to reject it. Has anyone else had Expedia do something like this?Expedia denied my price match because another site didn’t list a smoke detector. Also, they didn't want to drop my current price down by the 50$ even if I could just cancel for free and rebook.
