Route Finding on The Mount Forgotten Trail, North Cascades, Wa State, USA
Mount Forgotten trail starts from The Mountain Loop Highway 3 miles west of Barlow Pass at the joint Mt Forgotten Mt Dickerman trailhead. The trail ascends up the Perry Creek Drainage and slightly after beautiful Perry Creek Falls at 3.25 miles crosses to the west side of the creek at an unbridged ford. This is a get your feet wet crossing. The trail switchbacks up the side of Mt Forgotten leading to meadows and outstanding views, in high summer when the snow has mostly melted. Otherwise route finding is necessary. It's \~ 5.3 miles to the view meadows, 3400' gain. The actual summit of Mt Forgotten is another 1.25 miles and another rolling 900' gain (to 6008') with some easy scrambling at the end. After the meadows the trail is more a social trail bushwack than a maintained trail. Very worthwhile. The hike this pic is from did not get to the view meadows, much less the summit of Mt Forgotten. Deep mostly firm snow, solitude, Spring traipsing around the hills.
