Would a propane heater be a horrible idea in a wood shop?
I bought this house about 5 years ago and there's a detatched garage where I spend most of my time and it's honestly nicer than the house is.
It's well insulated, and even in the winter is significantly warmer than outside with just a small space heater going, but can still be too cold to work in.
It came with this propane heater that I've never used. I always just assumed it would be extremely expensive to get up and running becuase I thought it would require getting a propane tank installed as a permanent fixture. Never cared enough to look into it.
Turns out the local propane delivery company just leases them out and it's not actually unaffordable. I'd just need find someone to service it and get a tank dropped off.
Now what I'm really wondering though is if this thing is safe or not. The previous owner clearly was a car guy and built this garage with automotive work in mind.
My concern is how sawdust might mix with one of these. I don't actually know how a propane heater works, but I assume it's an open flame. While I'm not exactly planning on hitting a giant pile of sanding dust with a leaf blower running, I'd wonder if there's any danger just in the dust that might settle inside it over time, or the smaller amount of airborne dust created when doing indoor work in the winter. I usually try not to sand indoors at all, but sometimes it can't be avoided. #diy source
