I’m a casual hiker, but I’m confident I’m fit enough for this hike.
I’m planning to solo-hike Zugspitze next week from Hausberg (no via ferrata). It’s about 15 miles one way to the summit, and I'll take the cable car or cog train on the way down. My plan is to start hiking at 0500 so I can summit before 1400 and comfortably take the cable car before it closes.
I’m a little concerned about solo hiking such a long distance, since if something happens ¾ of the way (when the elevation gain gets serious), I would have to hike about 24 miles back down. I’m here to take any advice from people who have done this hike before and to get a shakedown of my gear or recommendations on items to add.
