I was bullied, but I'm tired of staying quite because I'm scared of sounding stupid

I can't count how many times I've had something to say and talked myself out of saying it. By the time I've rehearsed the sentence in my head, checked whether it sounds stupid, and waited for the "right' pause, the conversation has moved on. Then I go home frustrated because I probably seemed uninterested when I actually wanted to conect.

Growing up I got laughed at and bullied at school for stumbling over my words. Out of fear somehwere, I started keeping my answers short and letting other people do the talking. Something along the way that became a habit I don't know how to express myself clearly...

Recently somebody told me "I feel like I don't really know you" It hurt because I wanted them to. I just didn't know how to let them. I'd just like to share a story without rushing through it or express anopinion without apologizing first.

Was there anything you guys practiced that made speaking feel less intimiding? How do you express your thoughts clearly? Do I need to go to some therapy?
