With Green Lantern: War Journal ending in August, DC Comics officially has ZERO solo books led by a Black character.
Every February DC trots out Black characters for the Black History Month comic. But that's not enough. They actually have to show they care the whole year. If DC invested more in its Black characters this wouldn't be an issue.
There's some C-list original Black characters who aren't a legacy who have been done a disservice. Amazing Man, for example, could, if properly invested in, be a Black Panther answer for DC.
I recently reread the JSA and Amazing Man was such a cool character. His grandfather helped with the Civil Rights Movement. They all share powers. They could have a hero for each generation. Something like the Flash family! They even hinted at Amazing Man having his own team in the South at one point. I'd love to see that, at least another dope underutilized hero who can get the rebirth treatment.
DC could have a Storm-type character in Vixen! She's the most underutilized character in comics, IMO. Vixen is a well-designed, well-utilized character overall. Amazing power set. Beautiful. She's smart. Every iteration of her in all the media, you would think she would have more ongoing series or more features. I feel like, for the last decade, Vixen fans have been starving, you know?
Idk man I'm just so frustrated at how DC pays lip service to Black characters.
Also, I have to mention Green Lantern: War Journal. This series was amazing. Jon Stewart got three-dimensional here; he wasn't just a marine. They actually went back to his roots as an architect. I love the fact that we really dive deep into Jon and his mother. That first issue was heartbreaking, with the scene with his mother and Jon making the construct of his little sister. The book was amazing and I really wish more people read about it.
