Need advice on how to proceed and/or opinions on whether or not I’m overreacting.
We are having a very disappointing experience with our contractor on a bathroom and kitchen renovation. 5 months into what he said would take 3 weeks, completely unresponsive and unaccountable…
For the bathroom, we are for the most part very happy with how the tiling turned out, however, the niche is awful. It’s \*extremely\* slanted, and is essentially unusable because things are falling off. It’s also not anywhere close to the size we agreed upon and is off center, but we’re not even going to complain about that at this point.
\*\*I measured it, and it is a .5 inch drop over 3.75 inch depth. That comes out to 1.6inches per foot when standard practice is .13-.25 inch per foot…\*\*
He tried to collect our final payment (about $3500), when we mentioned this (in combination with other unfinished work). This was his response:
“We can do everything, except for the niche. I was looking over as to why it was built that way and found out that there was very little space to create the proper slope so even if we rip it apart and rebuild it, it will still be the same, I'm think maybe you're able to get a silicone mat for it \*probably will need to be cut to fit the space and that would add grip so toe bottles dont drop.”
It makes no sense to me why there “wouldn’t be enough room” to raise the edge? I’m confident they just don’t want to have to spend the money and effort to redo…
Any recommendations for recourse or response? Am I overreacting?
