We're Trivializing The Decline Of Journalism
Journalism is a modern miracle, unthinkable centuries ago when information was hoarded by kings and clergy.
It took revolutions, printing presses, and centuries of struggle to give the public a voice. Now, we are throwing it away for clickbait and outrage.
Investigative reporting, the kind that exposes corruption and sparks change, cannot survive on algorithms and ad revenue. As journalism collapses, so does our ability to hold power accountable.
The Watergate scandal was not uncovered by influencers.
The Civil Rights Movement was not fueled by fluff pieces.
It terrifies me that we are forgetting why journalism matters. Once it is gone, it will not return. It is not far-fetched to think future generations might not even miss it.
Am I the only one who thinks we are already too late to avert this crisis?
