The evolutionary advantages of neurodivergence, and how those traits fare in the modern attention economy, including videogames and loot boxes
This video is based on an upcoming book by Dr Clinton White: Fast Minds, Slow World. The book pulls heavily from the below studies, and covers the evolutionary advantages of groups having a small proportion of members as neurodivergent, as well as the role of dopamine, and the years of neglect that women and girls with ADHD and ASD suffered.
White encourages us, in his book and in this interview, to think of ADHD not as a disorder but as a different way of modulating attention, with its own strengths and weaknesses.
In addition, this grokludo interview covers how randomness in games triggers novelty seeking and dopamine spikes, hyperfocus patterns in gaming, procrastination, and variable reinforcement schedules in games and loot boxes.
