Mold in kitchen cabinets, not sure how to handle it.
I am in an odd situation of housing where I'm not the owner but I don't have a landlord. See the end of the post for the drama I guess.
Our bottom kitchen cabinets are developing mold, probably in part due to a handful of floods from the nightmare plumbing in this place backing up and leaking out the hvac drain pipe. The other part due to my roommate letting soda leak and then not cleaning up the mess.
They are MDF. Does not seem likely that they were painted or sealed correctly. Is there anything I can do about this that isn't just ripping out and replacing? I'm actually very allergic to mold and getting sick of living like this.
For those wanting the reason: (I bought a home with my ex but he somehow managed to get my name removed from the mortgage, so I have no major interest in putting more money into it. I've done most of the upgrades and repairs out of pocket but I'm absolutely broke now.
Initially I was building and replacing the cabinets, but between my disabilities/illnesses (fuck cancer), and skyrocketing prices, I just can't do it anymore.) #home source
