IC 1396 is a large emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus spanning over 100 light-years across and is located about 2400 light-years from Earth. Jutting from the rim of the nebula is IC 1396A - the Elephant's Trunk Nebula and to the right of the image is a red supergiant star Mu Cephei, also known as the Garnet Star.
