At the age of 12, Howard Dully was subjected to an unnecessary lobotomy, due to his stepmother being unable to handle a normal pre-teen boy
Dr. Walter Freeman , the man behind the disturbing practice of lobotomies, claimed that Howard had childhood schizophrenia and claimed that a lobotomy would cure him completely.
Other doctors also examined him and no one ever reached that diagnosis. It took Howard decades to recover from the surgery, living his life in institutions, prison, becoming homeless and an alcoholic.
Eventually he calmed down and got a college diploma. He has since researched what happened to him and even wrote his own memoirs of him, with the help of Charles Flemming, publishing a book entitled "My Lobotomy".
He was then a talk show host on National Public Radio, where he spoke to other lobotomy victims.
