According to folk traditions, bears emerge from their dens on February 2. The ancients believed that if the weather is good on February 2, then spring will come late. As the folk prophecy says: if a bear emerging from its winter rest comes out of its den and finds sunny weather, sees its own shadow, then it will hide back, because winter will still be long. If the bear wakes up to cloudy weather, it wipes the sleep from its eyes with its paws and does not go back to its den, but sets off in search of food.
Today, Monday, February 2, visitors to the Szeged Wildlife Park were able to participate in a bear observation. Two female bears from the Wildlife Park made predictions on site, and of course, they did not neglect the fruits they received, quickly devouring the delicacies prepared by the caretakers.
According to the caretaker, the bears of the Wildlife Park, Mici and Rózi, were also very interested and active this morning in Szeged. They emphasized that they do not hibernate, but they do not like to leave their homes in the cold. Now, despite the snowfall, both of them came out and were not scared by their shadows, so according to the prediction, snow here or there, spring will soon be here. 😀🫠
