hi! I'm hoping for help Selecting the right boots. I know how subjective this is but hoping someone with a good understanding of backpacking and the specs can help me
I am going on a 4 day backpacking trip Havasupai in a few months. I have only done 1 backpacking trip before wearing too small Colombia boots and my feet were angry at me
I have flat feet and have always had a hard time with foot pain with a lot of high impact activities. typically anything with arch support causes me A LOT of pain.
I discovered my favorite running shoes a few years ago: Altra Paradigm 6's and was able to run pain free for the first time
I don't have a lot of experience and am prone to clumsiness so I want to go to with a boot vs a trail runner. I've gone to REI to get fitted, but everything feels way different in the store vs the teail. here is what I have tried so far:
\- HOKA KAHA - felt great but was getting lateral pain near my pinky toe on both trial hikes
\- Soloman X Ultra 5 - only went on 1 hole so far but was also getting lateral foot pain and overall arch discomfort. I still need to try again
what is everyone's thoughts on Altra hiking boots? I was looking at the Olympus 6 Mid GTX. I thought maybe a wide toe box would solve my issues, but not sure if zero drop is a good idea for backpacking.
