Honecrisp apples are mediocre
Yes they're juicy, yes they're sweet, and if that's all you're after, that's probably a great choice. But as an apple, they just have an extremely bland flavor. While they might not match in texture, even your basic 99c/lbs McIntosh apple has far more apple flavor than an overpriced Honeycrisp or similar varities. If I'm in the mood for an apple, I want to taste apple, not just a mouthful of sugar water. Apple flavors can be extremely varied between varieties, and that's what I love about them. Honeycrisp has virtually none of it, maybe a hint of Gala flavor drowned in sugar water.
I just don't get why they are as prized as the are.
