Jeanie Buss is contesting her siblings’ plan to sell the Buss family trust’s remaining 17.8% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, according to a letter obtained by the Associated Press. 🏀

Her attorney says the sale requires approval from the trust’s co-trustees and that the family must retain enough ownership for Buss to remain the Lakers’ controlling owner. The governor role requires a minimum 15% ownership stake.

The dispute follows Mark Walter’s 2025 acquisition of control at a reported $10 billion valuation and his proposed $12.5 billion sale of about 65% of the team to Kushner and Iger. If the Buss stake were also sold, the buyers would hold about 83%, AP reported. 💼

The proposed transaction still requires NBA board-of-governors approval, a process that AP said could take months. As of August 18, the NBA listed Walter and Buss as the Lakers’ governors.
