I checked the garden before the storm. The wind is blowing hard again. This beautiful plant has multiplied.
It is called Solomon's seal (Polygonatum odoratum). According to legend, King Solomon discovered the wound-healing effect of Solomon's seal. The imprint of the king's signet ring, an S, can still be seen on the bumps on the plant's rootstock. In other tales and legends, it is mentioned as a jumping root that can open locked doors and make water flow from rocks.
In the past, it was used primarily to make an ointment to dissolve purulent tumors. Its roots, leaves, and blue berries contain highly toxic alkaloids, so they should be handled with caution.
