Fix for dents from painting pyramids

Hey all, I could use some help. I just applied a first layer of Arm-R-Seal Oil Topcoat to both sides of a cherry end table top, but unfortunately I must have pressed too hard when wiping the finish off the bottom and realized the painting pyramids I am using left indents in the top.

I’ve seen a potential fix could be to use an iron on a wet towel to try to make the crushed wood fibers raise again, but I’ve never tried it, and am not sure that it would work without sanding the top down.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance…

UPDATE: thank you all, I made a test piece as suggested and was able to confirm a soldering iron over a damp rag got me to “good enough”’results. I may try a second pass after I lightly sand the first coat tomorrow.
