Backstory and process. Interior designer sent me the rendering asking for me to estimate it. I was awarded the job. Had to fully reverse engineer the design. My new design was approved so then I ordered the stainless steel base. The base was supposed to be delivered first week of March. I finally received it the first week of May.. then started my part. I started with making mdf templates for what will be natural stone. For the droop part I stack laminated flat sawn white oak that was flattened and thicknessed to just over 1.5”. Did that in 2 parts and then made material to get my correct width to create the cavity for the base and future stone. I then power carved to get down to my template marks. I then used a spoke shave and rotex to fine tune the shape. The top was made out of 8/4 rift sawn white oak. I pattern routed the outer and inner shape from a template I made. Everything was sanded to 180 grit and 2 coats of Rubio Cotton white was applied. Now it is getting shipped to TX to be installed. #diy source
