Movie: Ben-Hur (1959)
This movie follows the journey of Judah Ben Hur, a Jewish prince who is betrayed by his childhood friend, the Roman Messala, and sold into slavery. The story focused on Ben Hur's internal struggle between a burning desire for vengeance and the transformative power of forgiveness.
This film is subtitled " A TALE OF THE CHRIST" and its connection to the Lenten Season is rooted in how it waeves the life of Jesus into Judah's personal odyssey. Throughout this film, Jesus is a presence felt rather than a face seen., he is the stranger who gives Judah water when he is dying of thirst and the healer who ultimately performs a miracle for Judah's family.
Because the climax of the story mirrors the events of Holy Week - culminating in the Crucifixion and the subsequent healing of Judah's soul - it has become a staple of lenten TV programming. The themes of fasting from hatred and the eventual of " RESURRECTION" of Judah's humanity align perfectly with the liturgical themes of Lent.
I believe it is not RELIGION that saves a person, but FAITH. Religion only guides us, teaches us values, but true salvation comes from genuine connection with GOD and strong FAITH in HIM.
