I finally admitted my body isnt 25 anymore and its the best thing Ive done
so heres something I wish someone told me earlier. trying to train like youre 20 when youre 35 with two kids and a desk job? yeah thats just gonna get you injured lol.
I spent like 2 years forcing myself to run and lift heavy because thats what I used to do. and I kept getting hurt. my knees. my lower back. my hips. I thought I was just -getting old and that was that.
turns out I was just doing the wrong stuff for where my body is now. my physical therapist finally sat me down and was like -hey your deep core is basically asleep. your lower back is doing all the work. no wonder you hurt.
she suggested reformer pilates. I laughed because I thought pilates was for rich suburban moms. but I tried it and honestly? I got my ass kicked in the best way.
the slow controlled movements, the tension ,the shaking, its completely different from anything Id done before. and for the first time in years my back didnt hurt after a workout.
the only problem is studio classes are expensive. like $35-40 each. I couldnt justify that long term.
so I started looking into buying something for my apartment. I dont have a ton of space so I was researching foldable options. I found this breakdown of foldable pilates reformer https://thecorecollabusa.com/products/the-queen-folding-pilates-reformer setups that helped me understand what to look for. but the real motivation came from just admitting that I needed to change.
and thats the thing I wanna share here. sometimes motivation isnt about pushing harder. sometimes its about admitting that what worked before doesnt work now. and thats not failure. thats just being smart.
I almost let pride stop me from trying something gentle because I thought I should still be crushing heavy deadlifts. but gentle doesnt mean easy. that reformer class humbled me more than any deadlift ever did.
so yeah. if youre stuck in the -I used to be able to do this mindset – maybe give yourself permission to try something different. your body will thank you.
anyone else here had to switch up their training because their body changed? what did you switch to? would love to hear Im not alone in this lol. #inspiration source
