Robert Sarver is responsible for building both finals teams
Sarver was infamous for being incredibly cheap and one of his moves was trading Kurt
Thomas's 8 million dollar salary to the then Seattle Supersonics in 2007 along with two
unprotected firsts in 2008 and 2010 for a 2nd round pick.
The 2008 first later became Serge Ibaka who was traded to the Magic for Victor Oladipo and
Domantas Sabonis. As most people know, this is what the Thunder flipped later on to the
Pacers for Paul George and this eventually turned into Shai, Jdub and picks
Meanwhile, the Pacers flipped Sabonis for Haliburton but also sent Oladipo in the Harden trade for LeVert, who they later traded to the Cavs for, among others, a 2022 second round pick that
turned into Andrew Nembhard. So 4 very vital starters including the two lead superstars were a
result of this seemingly inconsequential salary dump 18 years ago
