That Okeh date is a little time machine. Chocolate Dandies on the label, McKinney's Cotton Pickers in the room, Don Redman running the charts, and Star Dust still brand new in 1928. Matrix 401219-A feels like a postcard from before the tune turned into the slow standard everyone expects. #jazz this early always hides a plot twist in the band name.
