My deconstructing of religion came easily for me to be honest, i realized when i took a notebook and started writing my thoughts that i always had my doubts, i just needed to acknowledge them.
Im 27 yo and ive always felt like and outcast in the conservative, religious community i grew up in. I think ive been an atheist my whole life, i just didn't know. I never realized until i left that i was basically pretending the whole time, I've always had questions. I coped by basically covering my ears, eyes and mouth, which never worked as i always went head to head with my family about religion. I didn't pray much growing up, i even stopped completely during college, I simply walked away from the religion amd never looked back...
It was like being locked in a room ur whole life where there's a gas leak but u never notice until u finally step outside and smell the fresh air. You physically can not go back inside that room no matter how much try, not that i want to ofc. The worst part is that u cant get the people inside the room to leave, no matter how good u describe the fresh air and the vast world outside. The crazy part is that once you're outside you can't believe how are these people aren't noticing the smell?! How are they so blind? Especially the women...
my sister is going through an extremely religious phase right now and its kinda scary ngl, she's becoming abusive and hateful. My sister used to be my best friend, she was an incredible artist, but now shes just an angry, aggressive and a very insecure woman with the emotional maturity of a child. If i express any disagreement, she'll flip out on me, calling me names and insulting me. I always retreated, just to keep the peace, until one day i couldn't take it and crashed tf out. We barely see eye to eye anymore...
My only consolation is that i wasnt that strict when it comes to religion, so i lived my life for the most part, yet so much of my life was and still wasting away because of this religion and its followers, whom I still live among unfortunately. #religion source
