Hot take: Not every opinion deserves a public debate. We’re told that “open discussion” is always the mature move but honestly, some views are rooted in misinformation, bad faith, or a refusal to listen. Debating everything can give harmful ideas more oxygen than they deserve. Why I stand by it: Healthy discussion needs curiosity on both sides. If someone isn’t open to changing their mind, the debate isn’t growth it’s performance. And constantly arguing online doesn’t make society smarter; it often just makes people louder. How I defend it: I’m not against free speech. People can say what they want. I just don’t believe everyone is entitled to an audience, a platform, or my energy. Choosing not to engage isn’t “canceling” sometimes it’s just boundaries.
