Hey guys, looking for some honest career and academic advice.
At 21, I gave the NID entrance for Photography Communication a shot. I was an amateur back then and didn't clear it.Yielding to family/societal pressure about creative fields being "unstable," I chose a Master’s in Mass Communication instead to play it safe.
Fast forward to today: I'm 27, working a corporate job, and completely unfulfilled. The urge to understand photography deeply...socially, philosophically, and communicatively, has never left me. I still do occasional editorial work, but my old dream of using photography for social causes keeps pulling me back.
I am seriously contemplating preparing for the NID M.Des in Photography Communication again. But I have massive doubts:
Is it practical to attempt a design pivot at 27 in India?
For NID alumni or those in the design communication space, what does the actual industry landscape look like today?
If I decide not to go back to school, what alternative paths exist in India to work deeply in photography/social impact while maintaining financial stability?
Would love to hear from anyone who pivoted late, went to NID later in life, or found a way out of the corporate grind through visual media. #art source
