Can you review a CPU without actually having one? We simulated the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
We didn't receive a Ryzen 7 7700X3D review sample, so we tried something a bit unusual.
Since the 7700X3D is essentially a lower-clocked 7800X3D on paper (same core count, same cache configuration and TDP class), we limited a Ryzen 7 7800X3D's maximum boost clock to match AMD's specifications and ran our entire CPU benchmark suite.
Gaming performance ended up almost exactly where you'd expect: between the 7800X3D and 7600X3D. Efficiency results are obviously more speculative since we don't have an actual retail CPU yet.
The more interesting question is the methodology itself: would you consider this a legitimate way of estimating CPU performance if the architectural differences are known beforehand?
