Mimosa sapling struggling

Hello, I have a few mimosa sapling I have been trying to grow. This one has been struggling a bit. Four days ago, the stem broke which is the reason for the splint, it seemed to be healing OK but today the leaves where looking redder and never opened up. the most consistent reason for this would be excess sun, which could be possible since it just kinda sits on my porch. However the other sapling seemed to be doing fine. I put it into the shade since then but haven't noticed any changes. it could also be overwatered? I watered it the day I applied the splint and we have gotten quite a bit of rain since then.

More detailed care info:

site on the porch so gets pretty much unrestricted sunlight(if I notice the leaves on the saplings are closed I usually move them to the shade for a few hours)

I check the soil when I get off work and water it if I notice it is dry

the soil is some potting soil that was leftover from some plants my mom had, as well as a bit of compost.

four days ago the stem broke, I noticed it before I left for work and kinda propped it up with that sweet-gum ball but didn't apply a splint until after I got home.

is she doomed? what should I do?
