Is this idea pointless?

Hi everyone! Appreciate any advice. This year was my first year gardening and I had a lot of soil issues. I bought the cheapest one at the store. It was very woody. My plants were yellow from lack of nitrogen until I added amendments and even then didn’t produce well. Finally, I am fairly certain there was some type of virus in the soil because my tomatoes had curled new growth as did my green beans and peppers.

I’ve read that the virus should not last another year in the soil. I’ve started composting so I can add that as well.

Here’s the question- I had a bunch of leftover soil that I put in a giant storage tote. It has holes drilled in the top for ventilation. It got some rain in it so I added some shredded cardboard to help soak some of it up. I also added my first batch of compost that was ready. Will this soil be improved and ready to use next year? Or is this a waste of time? I was planning to do the lasagna method in my raised beds and add this soil near the bottom then fill whatever is left with high quality soil.
