Anyone else give up on the corporate ladder after having kids?
Been in corporate America for 16 years, started off in customer service making $16 an hour and now I have a 6 figure desk job in software development at the same company.
I remember prior to kids I had aspirations to reach Sr. Director or above level within the organization.
I remember one time something came up at work and I cancelled my family plans for the weekend and just stayed in my office all Saturday and Sunday to work on it… I also remember how my schedule was a 5pm departure but I worked until 9 or 10pm just to finish some stuff up.
Then kids came along and I really don’t give a crap about climbing anyone’s ladder, I don’t want to be a director, I don’t want more work responsibilities, and in fact I’m still on my 5pm departure schedule and at 4:50 I’m packing up to get the hell out of there immediately and go home.
Work went from top 2 on my list to probably somewhere near the bottom and being with my family is now number 1. Times have changed pretty dramatically. #relationships source
