HR Recruiters: Why Can’t I Land an Entry-Level HR Job?
I’ve been applying for entry-level HR jobs since March (HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, Talent Acquisition, HR Administrator) and I’m honestly feeling defeated.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources Management, several years of administrative and coordination experience, and I’ve tailored my applications as much as I can.
The frustrating part is seeing companies fill the exact roles I applied for, and sometimes the people hired don’t appear (at least from their public LinkedIn profiles) to have an HR degree or much HR experience. Meanwhile, I don’t even get a phone screen or interview for many of these positions. I’m not saying those people didn’t deserve the job I know LinkedIn doesn’t show everything but I’m trying to understand what I might be missing.
Recruiters and hiring managers: what makes you pass on someone with an HR degree for an entry-level HR role? Is it my résumé, lack of direct HR experience, networking, ATS keywords, or something else?
I’m genuinely looking for honest feedback because I really want to break into HR. If anyone has advice or if you’re recruiting for an entry-level HR or administrative role in the GTA I’d really appreciate hearing from you. #business source
