Should I do a Minor Upgrade or Big Upgrade

**Current Setup:**

My current set up is probably at least 8-10 years old.

CPU: i7-8700k

MB: Gigabyte Aorus z390

RAM: 16 GB DDR4 (2x8)

GPU: 1070TI

Monitor 1: Alienware3821DW

Monitor 2: LG Ultragear

**Current situation**:  At the heaviest multi-tasking, I will be remoting into work on one screen, play hearthstone and stream a movie in my other screen.  Lately, it seems like it’s overloading my computer.  One screen goes through shades of green, they’ll both turn off and off and it’ll continue. I’m not sure if it’s also taxing my system that my monitors are two different sizes and resolutions and it has issues flipping between screens.

I tried the Heaven benchmark and my screen would not stop going black constantly. It looked like it was having an awful time.

**Need Help on**:

I guess my first question: is my GPU dying or my CPU?  Any way to figure out which it is?

If it’s just my GPU to replace, am I better off just upgrading the whole system or just upgrading the GPU to something better but still compatible with my system?  I.e. not upgrading everything.  It looks like RAM is just bonkers now.

I only do light gaming (diablo iv, witcher).  I’d like to play nier automata or death stranding at some point but that’s a big issue.  Again, the most common scenario is remoting into work on one monitor, playing movies or games on the second monitor.
