Looking to see if anyone had any advice on how much I’m going to need for this 3 month South America trip! Advice on the trip itself also more than welcome.
First things first: I know it’s a lot, all that’s booked is flight into Rio and out of Bogotá, flexible with the rest.
Basic overview: Brazil 7 nights (Rio and Ilha Grande) Iguazu falls 3 nights Buenos Aires 5 nights Patagonia 11 nights (no W trek) Chile 11 nights (Santiago, La Serena, San Pedro de Atacama) Bolivia 10 nights (Uyuni, La Paz, Copacabana) Peru 23 nights (Cusco, salkantay, Amazon, Lima, paracas, Huacachina) Ecuador 15 nights (Galapagos, Quito, Cotopaxi) Colombia 9 nights (ipiales, Medellin, salento, Bogotá)
Busy schedule I know but have built in plenty of rest/buffer days relative to what we’re trying to see or do. Open to feedback on it.
We’re travelling as a couple and staying in almost exclusively hostels, some private rooms, some dorms (bar some multi day trips). Our plan is to be quite money conscious throughout but not so frugal it continuously punishes us. We’ll do a mix of cheap eating out and cooking, maybe a handful of nicer but still reasonable meals as treats.
In terms of transport, we will likely do the following flights (with a checked bag).
Rio to Iguazu Buenos Aires to El calafate Puntas arenas to Santiago Lima to Guayaquil Guayaquil to Galapagos Galapagos to Quito Pasto to Medellin
The rest will be overland bus transport, with 5 overnight busses.
We’re hoping to survive. On €8-10k total ($9.5-11.5k). Thoughts? 🫣 #activity #nature
