I'm the youngest one at work and everyone else is much older than I am. They're all at least in the mid 30s and early 40s. They're capable, good and supportive people but I genuinely don't know how to interact socially with them. It is a sort of a semi-government setup so the environment is kinda bureaucratic. These people have been working together for decades and have their own inside jokes and shared experiences. It is impossible for me to be a part of that. No matter how much I try to push myself I always feel like an outcast. I'm an introvert myself so that obviously doesn't help either.
On the other end, it is also difficult for them to incorporate such a young employee into their work lives as this is the first time for them as well.
I'm genuinely confused as to what I should do. I'm always overthinking whether I should go and talk to someone (not about work just small talk) or would it be weird/awkward. I have tried small talk and it definitely was awkward.
I won't be able to survive here if it stays like this.
I'd appreciate some advice from people who have been in similar situations. #relationships
