My Very First Attempt at Astrophotography
Hey everyone. I’ve finally got my beginner astrophotography gear in order and had my first light last Saturday. It was a bit of a cloudy night, but I was determined and caught a break in the clouds around 2am to start recording. It helped too because it gave time for the moon to get lower before collecting my lights. This shot was also taken from a backyard, so some stray light may have been bothering the shots. Anyway, this is what I managed to get and I’m happy with what’s been collected. Here are the acquisition details:
- Bortle 6 or 7 (Southern Orange County, California)
- lights: 49 45 second exposures (00:30:45 total time)
- darks: none because I’m very silly and took them wrong
- bias: 60 (you might be able to tell what happened to my darks from this number)
- flats 20
- stacking, background neutralization, star removal, and histogram stretching done in Siril with Starnet integration.
- Touchup of histogram in photoshop
This is my very first effort so I’d love to hear some feedback. I’m also going on a stargazing trip to Mammoth so I’m hoping to get a direct comparison of this shot and one from a Bortle 1-2 area.
