Renting a car in Portugal with a German lincense which is valid but non-compliant
I have a valid German drivers license -however my age group was required by german law to exchange said driving license into an EU-drivers license by the begining of 2026.
Unfortunately appointments with the relevant "Führerscheinstelle" in my city are hard to get and I was only able to apply to the new EU-drivers license two weeks ago which very likely will not be in time to receive the new EU-license for my visit to Madeira next week.
My german drivers license is still valid EU-wide but deemed non-compliant by German law. Does anyone know if this might be problematic for a possible car rental in Portugal / Madeira?
