advice needed: can i get a japanese dragon tattoo as a white girl?

i want to get a traditional japanese dragon with some flowers real big on my leg, but a few friends told me people might find it offensive. i’d hate to have smth on my body forever that will translate poorly. does anyone have experience with this?
