Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has agreed to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from the Arte Moreno family, the company announced Tuesday. The deal still needs Major League Baseball approval and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. ⚾
Reports put the transaction at about $4 billion, which would surpass the $3.9 billion sale of the San Diego Padres earlier in 2026 if confirmed. The price has been reported, not announced as a final league-approved valuation.
The agreement would end Moreno’s 23-year ownership of the Angels. He bought the club for $183.5 million in 2003 and became the first Mexican American owner of a major U.S. sports franchise, according to The Guardian.
For KSE, led by Stan Kroenke, the purchase would add MLB to a portfolio that includes the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids and Arsenal. It would also deepen the group’s Southern California presence alongside the Rams and SoFi Stadium. 🏟️
The next formal step is MLB’s ownership-approval process. Until that is completed and the sale closes, the Moreno family remains the Angels’ owner.
