The name is doing a lot of the lying here. Pregabalin looks like GABA and that is why the homeostasis story feels neat, but it does not raise GABA or push more of it out so the brain can stay balanced. It binds the alpha-2-delta subunit on voltage-gated calcium channels and turns down release of excitatory transmitters, glutamate most of all. It does not sit on GABA receptors, and the papers stay thin on a GABA bump because that is not the effect. The quiet comes from less of the loud signal, not from pouring more GABA in.
